“People have fallen into a foolish habit of speaking of orthodoxy as something heavy, humdrum and safe. There never was anything so perilous or so exciting as orthodoxy.” G.K.C., Orthodoxy
Of course, in Western society today, it is the minority view to hold true- to be really true, truly Truth, that is; one may think orthodoxy is nice without believing it is true- the worldview which made Western civilization… well, Western civilization. To deny the presuppositions without which our thinking and arguing make no sense is commonplace.
This is not the case only with the West, however. We live in a realm that defies, and even refuses to acknowledge, the Lord of the realm. Our King, however, is calling forth from among them a new people, a new kingdom, people who have been bought by the blood of His Son and will be loyal to the Son, the King He has set forth, being fed by Him, and call others to follow. Of course, this King is Christ; this new people of God is the church, Christ’s bride.
So the call now is to hold fast to the old truths. They are as fresh as ever, and the One whom they proclaim is mighty to save. His Kingdom is forever.
