Lessons for My Son: On Being Bored

It is commonly stated that only boring people get bored, and the assessment is indeed true. When someone is bored, it is no one’s fault but their own. The idea that you must always be entertained is an insidious one, and it has the potential to rob you of much joy, adventure, and wisdom.

The truth is that, as Eric Hoffer stated, “When people are bored, it is primarily with themselves.” Billy Graham understood the truth of boredom as well: “Only those who want everything done for them are bored.” You will find that many who often complain of boredom do so because of there dependence on a glowing screen of some sort.

So, don’t be bored. Be creative; be adventurous; be thoughtful. Enjoy life.
